This policy explains what data Patibles collects, how it's used, and what choices you have. Patibles is operated by Alex (the founder); when this policy says "we" it means Alex.
What we collect
To create your account: display name, email address, password (stored hashed), and a preferred contact method you choose (phone, Discord handle, etc.).
To match you with friends, the information you choose to enter:
- Demographics: age, gender, location, languages spoken
- Substance-use facts: whether you smoke, drink, or use cannabis, and at what level
- Requirements: the demographics you're open to in a friend, travel willingness, and any dealbreakers
- Your responses to value statements and the interests you select
We also collect technical data automatically: a session cookie that keeps you logged in, basic server logs (timestamps, paths, error traces), and error reports if something breaks (via Sentry; these don't include the contents of your profile).
How we use it
Your profile data is used solely to identify potential friends for you and to introduce you to them. The matching algorithm runs automatically; Alex reviews the results and personally reaches out when there's a good fit, using your preferred contact method.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising.
Who can see your data
You can see and edit everything you've entered, on the About Me page.
Alex (admin) can see all of your profile data. This is necessary for the concierge matching service to work.
Other Patibles users cannot see your profile, responses, or even that you exist on the platform. The app deliberately does not surface matches to users — only to Alex.
When Alex introduces you to a match, your name and preferred contact method will be shared with the other person (and theirs with you) so you can connect outside the app.
Where it's stored
Data is stored in a managed Postgres database hosted by Render (https://render.com). Connections are encrypted in transit. The database is encrypted at rest per the provider's standards.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Delete your account and the data is removed from the active database (subject to short-term retention in routine database backups, which roll off over time).
Your rights
You can:
- Access your data: visit your About Me page anytime.
- Correct your data: every field is editable in About Me or Account.
- Delete your account: email Alex at the contact below and your account and associated data will be removed.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA (California). Email Alex with any request; we'll honor it.
Cookies
We set one cookie: an encrypted session cookie that keeps you logged in between page loads. We don't use third-party analytics or tracking cookies.
Third parties
The services Patibles relies on:
- Render (hosting the web app and database)
- Sentry (error monitoring — no profile content is sent, only error stack traces and request URLs)
Children
Patibles is intended for people 13 and older. If you're under 13, please don't sign up.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the "last updated" date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
